#Road2NASCAR Driver Spotlight – Logan Clampitt
With the season a third of the way complete, there are two drivers which are still eligible for the #Road2NASCAR opportunity with Patriot Motorsports Group. For 2018 the opportunity was open to current NASCAR Peak Antifreeze iRacing Series (NPAiS) drivers and top iRacing NASCAR Road to Pro Series drivers. This week we took time to talk with long-time wheelman at iNEX Racing and Richmond Raceway eSports: Chaos Crew’s Logan Clampitt.
Steven Burbage: With the Road2NASCAR opportunity initially drawing you into V8 SuperTrucks, what has been the biggest surprise this year so far? Logan Clampitt: Yes, it absolutely was. The biggest surprise has been how competitive many of the people have been in all races. SB: What has been the one thing that you've been working on to be successful this season? LC: The one thing I've been working on to be successful this season is practice and working on consistency at every track. Some of the tracks on the season I've never driven on in any car, so practice was key to being successful at those.
SB: What has been the biggest challenge for you this season and what has been the one thing that you've been working on to be successful?
LC: The biggest challenge for me this season has had to be learning a few of the tracks. The one thing I've been working on to be successful this season is practice and working on consistency at every track. Some of the tracks on the season I've never driven on in any car, so practice was key to being successful at those.
SB: With your emphasis on consistency regarding the challenge of V8 SuperTrucks, has the experience benefited you in other series? LC: When you're racing the truck on road courses it tends to slide quite a bit. The truck will tend to have a lot of power it seems like on road courses. I've found out that going very smooth is way faster than sawing on the wheel and sliding it everywhere. That has tended to help me in the VRS GT Series, which (V8 SuperTrucks) has made the GT car easy to drive. SB: What drivers do you consider your rivals this season? What has been your favorite race battle so far? LC: Drivers that I consider rivals this season have to be the ones that are close on speed to me, like Wade Hays, Erik Blixt, and Diogo Melro. My favorite race battle so far this season was holding off Erik Blixt at Sonoma Raceway on older tires having to hit consistent laps.
SB: What track are you looking forward to the most?
LC: The track I'm most looking forward to has to be Mount Panorama. Mount Panorama has been one of my favorite tracks on the GT circuit as it's difficult to hit every corner perfectly since you're inches off the wall almost every corner.
SB: What track do you think will be your biggest challenge? LC: The track that I think will be my biggest challenge will probably have to be Virginia International Raceway. I have never turned a lap there and I've heard from others that the track is very challenging with almost any car and with this being the truck, it may be even harder to drive.
SB: In the NASCAR Peak Antifreeze iRacing Series you will be racing at Sonoma Raceway next month. Last year you finished 7th when NPAiS visited Sonoma, How are you feeling about returning to Sonoma in the Cup car? LC: I feel like I've learned a few more things around Sonoma Raceway since last year's race. Bobby Zalenski, Michael Conti, Nick Ottinger, and Matt Bussa will probably be my toughest competition there. It'll take quite a bit of practice to beat them.
