Cammaerts leads, but Zalenski captures the win.

V8ST Field going through Turn 1

July completes the V8 SuperTrucks visit to the UK at the Silverstone Circuit. Last year experienced a wild start and a new victor. For 2018 fewer incidents on track and quite a bit of action all race despite a smaller grid than Brands Hatch.

Things start out intense right from the start. Unlike previous rounds, where a battle for 2nd breaks out from the start, Sven Cammaerts is able to slot behind Bobby Zalenski applying pressure to the reigning champ right from the start. By lap 3, Zalenski starts to succumb to the pressure, first running wide on the exit of Copse, then cutting through the grass at Becketts (pictured above). Cammaerts would go on to setup Zalenski on the outside of Stowe to take over the lead going into Vale.

Cammaerts would hold onto the lead until Lap 6 when the #66 Sick Sideways Tundra would lock the rears under braking sending Cammaerts wide, giving the lead back to Zalenski. However, the mistake would cost Cammaerts more than the lead as newcomer Thomas O’Leary would also take advantage of the mistake snagging second place coming through Brooklands.

Further back in the field, James King and Erik Blixt had been battling intensely, and on Lap 7 Blixt would dive to the inside of King into Priory, moving up to 5th place. One lap later, Zalenski would give up the lead to head in for his mandatory pitstop on Lap 8. The rest of the field will begin their stops on Lap 9 with O’Leary, who currently leads the field would come down pit lane followed by Cammaerts on Lap 10, giving the lead to Erik Blixt. While in pit lane, O’Leary and Cammaerts would be pasted by Zalenski. Blixt would come in for his mandatory pit on Lap 11 which would also return Zalenski the race lead.

In the closing stages of the race, Cammaerts would start to fall away from O’Leary, which lead to an intense battle with Gabriel Roos (#323). Roos would hound Cammaerts all the way to the finish but would be unable to capture his first podium.

With the European Tour at an end, we head back to North America to Ontario, Canada for Round 8 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). This circuit is no stranger to stockcar racing, with its history of putting on some of the best road races in NASCAR.
